curiouser and curiouser

Peter in Frame

The Alice in Wonderland movie comes out on Friday. In his true fashion, Tim Burton has creeped it out sufficiently. That guy can't ever leave good enough alone.

Why he was allowed to lay a finger on this story is beyond me. I guess he has money.

But then again, my mother has always been creeped out by Alice in Wonderland. When I played the Cheshire cat in the third grade that's all she would say, "I don't know why the are doing that story. It's just plain creepy. Creepy!"

And then there is the business about Lewis Carroll being a drug addict and pedophile, which I don't believe and neither does Lenny- a veritable Alice expert.

I personally always liked the story with it's white rabbit and tea parties. I thought it was charming.

I drew the rabbit the other day. I think I will use him to make Easter cards. He makes a pretty good Easter Bunny stand-in.

Found these while I was up in the middle of the night. Aren't they cute?

You can buy them here.

I got started drawing rabbits and I couldn't stop. If only I owned a letterpress. I could make some awesome Easter cards.

Easter Bunnies

I've had some Alice charms in my stash for a while now. I think I'll put them to good use and have a give away.

I'll pick two winners. Randomly, of course, for fairness sake.

You know the drill. Leave a comment, just one. I'll pick on Friday when they release the creepy movie.

Also, I'll be loading this little delight into my shop later today. It's called "Alice".

And last but not least, check this out. What a fun party idea!

  5. i am a huge tim burton fan, and i am actually greatly anticipating his version of alice in wonderland.
there was some movie when i was a child where alice was stuck on the wrong side of a mirror...and there was a dragon...i don't remember much but flashes, but alice to me has always been the perfect mixture between eerie and charming. so it made total sense to me when i found out about this remake.
the scariest part, i feel, is how much he managed to make beautiful johnny depp look like elijah wood. seriously. google those images. uncanny.
your jewelry, on the otherhand, is 100% charming and 0% eerie. count me in for the giveaway! what beautiful pieces!

  14. Haha! Whenever I think of Alice in Wonderland, I think "creepy", too. But I do think it's my mom's voice in my head because I can't really put my finger on just what's so creepy about the original. This new version though, definitely creepy. Love the charms and Love the new "Alice" necklace. Wish I could trade you like 10,000 budding tree branches for it. :)

  15. Thank you!!!! No doubt people will come out in droves to support it but I hate how he destroys wonderful movies! But on a happy note...I love your jewelry...especially the pieces with the fabric flowers...gorgeous!

  20. I gotta be honest - I'm a fan of Tim Burtons' creeped out versions of stuff! HA! I can't help it. Although, I've always considered this one to be creepy anyway. If he did the Wizard of Oz I think I might be too scared to go! LOL! That necklace is amazing!

    ReplyDelete
  21. I hope I win!!
I don't want to see the movie. I like the director because I think he's talented and Johnny Depp too, but there are so many other movies that I would prefer to see.

  22. oh i would love to win! thanks.

  23. i agree, the new Alice movie looks really creepy!! but your jewelry looks FANTABULOUS!! hope i win!! your family is just beautiful!! congrats on the new little kidlet!!

  24. Love the necklaces! And agree that the movie looks creepy...I'm not a Tim Burton fan.

    ReplyDelete
  25. love the jewelry! Been an Alice fan for a long time. I wore a Cheshire cat tshirt in high school, thought it was hip:)

  26. This week's Newsweek magazine has a review of the movie, and critic Ramin Setoodeh mentions that Alice's Adventures in Wonderland "has been made (and remade) into ballets, puppet shows, an opera, and even a pornographic musical."

So, I'm thinking Burton's version is probably relatively harmless.

  27. Those necklaces are absolutely adorable! Have you heard of Wonderland Bakery up in the OC? Alice in Wonderland themed, very pink and girly, and lots of fancy cupcakes and such. Your darling little girl may not appreciate it yet, but it's something to look forward to in a year or two.

If I win one of the necklaces, I'm wearing it to Wonderland Bakery with my little girl, and we'll make all the other patrons jealous.

  28. Creepy for sure...however the charms and pendant necklaces CUTE CUTE CUTE!

  31. I am constantly amazed at people who pour out creativity like this, even once, but more so when they can do it over and over again. Totally jealous of that ability.

    Those are adorable (of course)!

  32. Creepy and all I'll still see it. Your necklaces are darling. Here's hoping that Random.org favours lil ol' me ;0)

  33. Alice in Wonderland had to do with my marriage... yes: I met my husband during my undergrad years and I borrowed him a very old copy of that book. He was kinda reluctant but agreed. I felt offended and I promised to myself never to talk to him!! Ha, ha! and look at us 10 years laters! proud parents of a newborn and sharing our lives!

I agree that some of the characters in the book are kinda creepy, specially the queen and that cat...

I love your blog and this is actually the third time I post, so I hope at least you find my anecdote interesting. But if I get the goodies, hehe, that's even better ;)
    Take care!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Would love to give one of these darling necklaces to my daughter who was the Unbirthday Cake in last year's middle school production. Their version was adorable--not sure the same will be said about Tim Burton's!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I agree, "don't mess with Alice". I have such fond memories of that book. I also love Carroll's nonsensical Jabberwocky. My husband and I recently visited Monterey, CA and stayed at the Jabberwocky B&B. Oh it was brillig! There was even a tumtum tree outside our window.

Would love to have one of those charming necklaces. Then I'd have an "O frabjous day! Calloh, callay!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Love them both! Everything you make is so amazing, your so talented.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Yes, I think the movie looks creepy too. Afterall, Johnny Depp is in it - and I think mostly ANYTHING he has acted in is quirky/odd/slightly-morose.

But ohhhhh I love your jewelry. Exact opposite effect that Johnny Depp movies have on me.

  39. When disney made Alice and Wonderland, I hated it and it still creeps me out. So honestly it seems fitting that Tim Burton should do it. But I for some odd reason Like Tim Burton and Johny Depp, so I'm nervous to see how the movie goes. Love alice stuff.

  50. I have to agree with your mom that the story is creepy. But I love Johnny Depp and the creepy/funny that he brings so I'm a little excited.

By the way, you are super talented and I wish I could "doodle" as well as you.

  51. I adore Alice in Wonderland and have a rather large collection. It's so fun to see people's reactions when they come to my house! I love the fact that Tim Burton isn't re-making the movie, but doing more of a sequel. It will be creepy and fun! Love your jewerly and thank for the chance to win! And I LOVE your drawing!

  53. Oh I do love the Alice Necklace! I too find this version to be creepy and Johnny Depp has turned from sexy pirate to creepy Mad Hatter..

    ReplyDelete
  54. Love it! I, too, loved the tea party and longed to be the Cheshire Cat so I could disappear at will. And I loved how the Queen of Hearts would shout, "Off with their heads!" at a moment's notice. Truthfully, I've always wanted to shout "Off with their heads!" I agree it looks like Tim has really creeped it out. But I think in strange sort of way I want to see the movie...wearing one of these necklaces!!!! Thanks for the opportunity!

  55. I love the book but the movie does look a little creepy :) I'll probably see it with my sister, she loves creepy and good mixed! Have a great day!

  58. I'm afraid I'm on your mom's team. Alice in Wonderland has always scared me. It seems the perfect project for Tim Burton. Too bad it is too scary looking for me to see. Not to mention how frightful that big head is on Helena Bonham Carter!

However, you necklaces are not scary at all! Pick me!

And I especially love the Alice. Perfectly interpreted.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I LOVE Alice in Wonderland. I still remember when I was a kid I had my first sticker of Alice from Disney and it was so so precious to me. And I love those charms of your. Love love love to win them.

  60. I have always been a little creeped out too by Alice in Wonderland...but mostly I think by the strangeness of it all---but I think that is what's it's suppose to do...the whole time Alice seems to be in dream---and she was---dreaming, that is, while Carroll was weaving his tall tale...and aren't dreams a little warped? I love, love the tea party and created my version of the Mad Hatter's tea party for my Easter theme this year. I absolutely love your site and the Alice Necklace!! Just pure candy!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Pick me! Pick me!!!!! Would love to have another necklace by you...especially one with Alice! And actually I'm quite curious as how Tim B. did this movie. I loved Edward Scissorhands! Congrats on adopting your daughter!
