bionic blather

The problem is that really great clothes just don't look the same when you have a muffin top.  This is what motivates me. Fashion. Shallow? I don't really care.

I have been a very good girl. I haven't missed a workout.  I did have some sweets yesterday but they were of the most delectable type that are worth every calorie.  Besides, this is a lifestyle change for me, not a diet. And my lifestyle will always include delectables.

When the Boy was two I ran a marathon.  Here's the problem with running marathons (other than blood in your pee and your toenails falling off): After the marathon you are used to eating what ever you like.  So you eat all this stuff but you aren't training any more so you don't burn off the calories.  It really sucks.

Thus the muffin top.

But I do have good news. I have had two, count them, two days where I felt like my old self again.  My energy was back and I felt really good.  It's not a lot, but it gives me hope that the good doctor might be worth his weight in beans.

So I'm starting to feel good and bionic and all.  But I am in desperate need of some good tuneage.  This is where you come in.

What songs do you have on your workout playlist?  Don't be shy. I'm am an admitted music snob, except for workout music.  Bring on the 80's hairbands, show tunes, teeny bopper jive, rap, whatever.  Really.

  1. My newest workout playlist is AWESOME and includes:
    Footloose
    Fat Bottom Girls (Glee version)
I think were alone now (Tiffany)
    La Bamba
    Enter Sandman
    Another One Bites the Dust

And another 45 minutes of awesomeness.

  2. Lady Gaga is awesome workout music, I have most of her hits on my ipod, and I do aerobic step every morning to her, it's helps me get through the workout...because I HATE it!

  3. Laurie is right about Lady Gaga.

I too am a music snob but felt the need for some serious tempo and work out music isn't the type of tunes you'd listen to for pleasure.

Here are my top picks. I'd also include a good dose of Justin Timberlake.

    u2 - beautiful day
    rihanna - SOS
bodyrockers - i like the way (radio edit)
bon jovi - livin' on a prayer
    burno mars - grenade
choir boys - run to paradise
corey heart - sunglasses at night
    ella fitzgerald - get happy
human nature - dancing in the street
keith urban - put you in a song
    michael jackson - beat it
    nkob - right stuff
    neil diamond - cherry,cherry
    nelly fertado - maneater
    rick springfield - jessie's girl

  4. u2 - desire. The opening word sounds like 'liver' but I'm pretty sure Bono means 'lover'

  10. Training for a half in mid-April, and I need fresh tunes to keep me moving, so this is always at the back of my mind. No rhyme or reason for the picks (my runner self is almost a split personality from my normal self)--I'll take anything that keeps me moving forward. Right now it's this stuff:

Cup of Life (Ricky Martin) - old driving song for the mister and me.
Sometime Around Midnight (ATE) - serious build in intensity.
Camera One (Josh Joplin Group) - an old one I just found the other day and it gave me a good groove.
Club Can't Handle Me (Flo Rida) - makes me feel like I'm awesome. and can dance.
I Do (Colbie Caillat) - bouncy and adorable--new for me today.
Rhythm Of Love (Plain White Ts) - beats out a steady 9:18 mile pace.
Live Like You're Dying (Kris Allen) - only got 86400 seconds in a day, better run faster.
Break Your Heart (Taio Criz) - take all my willpower to not sing outloud with Ludacris. because I'm awesome.
Take Me Out (Atomic Tom) - the studio version of the viral iphone-train video.
I Run To You (Lady Antebellum) - country, I know, but it actually talks about running and I do sing along.
Just The Way You Are (Bruno Mars) - because I'm amazing, just the way I am.
All In (Lifehouse) - love, love, love, repeat.
Human (The Killer) - absolute favorite. Are we human or are we dancers? I'm a dancer, baby.

Doc knows what he's talking about. It hurts, but it's the only way to get back to normal. Good for you.

  11. There is one tune that, I swear to you, has magic work-out, cheer-up, get-motivated powers for me and that is Florence and the Machine's Dog Days are Over. I am absolutely certain I rock out to that once a day...it just transforms my mood. :)

  12. I love working out with Switchfoot, U2 and (sit down) Pearl Jam. But I'm a grunge girl~ :)

  13. Respect by the one and only Aretha
    Fighter by Christina Aguilera
Son of a Preacher Man by Dusty SPringfield
    Faith by George Michael
    Stronger by Kanye West

    1980 by Rehab
I have a pretty eclectic mix, but these are the ones that make me feel strong and keep me going for that last half mile! And I totally am going to use some of the other suggestions made here! Thanks April, I love your blog!
