a study of the natural world

I am a girl, like many girls, that loves all things beautiful. I try to make beautiful things to fill my life. 

The master teacher, yogi and offical authority on beauty is, of course, Mother Nature.

For my most recent art project, I tried to copy the vast and alluring diversity of one small part of Mother Nature's grand work.

I'm not a butterfly girl per say. I'm not a heart girl either. You can keep your sweet little hearts thank you very much. I won't be needing them on my clothing or anywhere in my house.

But lately, well lately, I've been a little fascinated (is that the right word?) by these winged creatures. They keep popping up in everything I create. I think it might boil down to envy.

Just watch a butterfly as it flits about your garden. They are so carefree, light and graceful.

For a girl with her feet firmly on the ground (surrounded by laundry) it seems impossible to ever be so blithe.

So I will continue to create my little butterflies and maybe if I work hard enough and long enough, someday I will be an old grandma on a porch and when a butterfly flutters by I will be able to say that I am as carefree as he.

Nina Clough is an illustrator who likes to spend the day drawing, painting and printing. Nina loves the colours, lines and characters in architecture and nature.
She lives in Southsea Hampshire, in England. I have admired her work for a while now. I would love to buy an original some day.

I think it is important to seek out art work that really speaks to you and save up to buy either an original or at least a artist produced print. I am striving to carefully choose each and everything I decorate my home with, so that it doesn't feel "overdecorated", but is simply, beautifully our own creation.

I have decided, that every Sunday I will feature artists that I deem noteworthy. It empowers me that in this little world that is my blog, I am queen, president and chief bottle washer. I call all the shots. This isn't the case in every other facet of my life. And so- "henseforth, Sundays shall be design day!", speaks the queen.
