I finally finished off the spooky decor on my mantle and I nearly scared myself to death. Not because my decorations are freighting, but because it dawned on me as I was sticking up the last bat that the year is nearly over.
In just two weeks I'll be taking all this down and getting ready for Thanksgiving.
Shut the hell up.
No way is this year almost over. No. Way.
I wasn't even going to decorate the mantle this year. I'm so completely exhausted these days. Can I just tell you that within a twenty-four hour period I have been barfed on by both my children, more than once by Birdie, agreed to watch a friend's dog over night, chased said dog all over tarnation to get her to come back in the house, mopped up an over flowing toilet, changed no less than six poopy diapers, wiped up dog pee and scrubbed black icing cupcake barf from my carpet?

Believe me, you haven't seen scary until you've been to my house.
So I wasn't going to decorate. But then I thought of Thom and how these are the years he will remember and how festive stuff is the pumpkin spice of life. How could I deprive my children of that?
So the mantle was decorated and after I got over my panic attack of realizing that 2009 is almost gone, I sat on my couch and made a plan to take things as they happen and enjoy the ride.
I will just mention though that there are only 10 weeks left until Christmas. If this alarms you, take deep breaths, go to your kitchen and find something to calm you down.
Like camomile tea or Oreos dipped in peanut butter with whipped cream on top.

Ok, I love it and I normally don't love, or even like Halloween decor. I like it for other people but I always think waaay too cheesy for my home. I love your style. Someday, when we are done with grad school and own a big beautiful home (fingers crossed), I am going to take a look at all of your awesome posts and be inspired to create something fab for my home.
Love- Love- Love the halloween seasonals. I thought the same thing about the year almost being over... When I take down my Halloween my Christmas goes up soon after. YIKES!
I envy your amazing decor and love for the holidays! One day I will be as creative as you are for my kids. Fortunately I have some time to prepare to be that amazing. So for now I will be inspired by you and look forward to your blog posts that ALWAYS seem to put a smile on my face.
Sorry to hear about all the Barf... I really understand. I wore a new dress to church today. (20 lbs. lighter no less) I was feel really good about myself... Until Zion Barf a stomach full all down my arm. Acid Reflex knows NO bounds. We started adding a bit of rice cereal to her formula. It helps MOST of the time...
As for the 10 weeks until Christmas... NO comment.
so cute! Maybe I will get my Halloween boxes down tomorrow...you have inspired me!
I am having a black and white themed Halloween party this coming weekend, and your mantel was totally inspiring! I loved all of your ideas, it looks fabulous!
The baby is due in 2 days. The kids feel deprived of Halloween festivity as I informed them there will be no fall decorating because the mother can not bare the thought of having to put it all away. I promised we will do the pumpkin carving, however, and I have planted the seeds with Brad that this may be a father children bonding activity this year. Do you think the seeds will produce fruit? Well, Nana is always on standby. I have lowered my expectations!
i always think i am creative and have style until i see decor like that. i suck! i always figure it's cause i am broke but maybe i am just not creative enough.
i LOVE the mantle.

I feel your pain on being barfed on! Abbey barfed on me a lot last week! Good job on your decorations. Come to my house and you will see the white trash version of Halloween. I envy your creativity!
