a fresh start

Here we are. 2010.

Yep. It came.

The boy is back in school. Thank the Lord for that.

The baby is back on her nap schedule. Hallelujah!

We purged the fridge of all sweets. Damnit.

And I'm thinking I would really love to have a clothesline in my yard.

Now I know you are saying to your computer, "April, you suck at laundry. Why do you want a clothesline?"

I'll tell you why.

I love the smell of sunshine on my clothes. I love the feel of crisp cotton. And more than anything, I love to listen to the sound of sheets snapping in the wind while I drink a tall glass of lemonade on a lazy afternoon.

I want to keep my options open. If I do decide to do laundry, I'd like to have the option of hanging it on the line to dry. That would be refreshing.

I love my clothesline. I love my little clothespin apron from Etsy. I love my wicker laundry basket. I love the act of hanging the clothes, taking them down, folding them--all in the warm sunshine. It slows things down a bit, makes me feel like I'm doing something good, and for some reason is so satisfying. I used to always think clotheslines were tacky, and I guess they can be, but I've fallen in love with mine (and I get my laundry done so much faster).

Hi! I just wanted to say hi. I stumbled across your blog the other day and love what you have going. I must say I like your sense of humour! And I love your jewelry too! Thanks!

I love the idea of the clothes hanging to dry on the clothesline but wonder if I'm not romanticizing the whole thing. I think of the dirty windows of my screened porch and wonder if that same dirt floats, silently and invisibly onto the hanging sheets, etc. I live in Los Angeles, though, so who knows?

April, I totally agree. I love the Option of hanging out clothes, and so got a line up last summer. it tends to get used mostly for sheets and towels b/c I can't be bothered pegging up all the smaller items (and I don't want to iron them either). When the mood hits you, there's nothing nicer than hanging out washing and watching it blow in the wind.

See- I like the artificial fabric softener smell. If it dried outside then I just wrinkle my nose up and say "ew". Does that make me a city girl?

Hand washing and line drying has it's perks. I did it for 1 1/2 years while living in Uruguay. But the cracked hands I didn't care for. Much. The clothes smelling of air and sun though? Worth it!
