i do, over and over again

I can't remember where I got this photo, but I do remember reading that it was a wedding dress and the bride crocheted it herself.  Isn't is amazing?  It steals my breath away and wish I could get married again and wear one just like it.

Which I would do a million times over if I believed in it.  I'm one who tries to live up to my wedding vows everyday, hoping they won't fad over time.  The original promises I made are graffitied all over my heart.

I married Sugar Daddy sixteen years ago.  We were young and stupid and crazy in love.  Most of all, we were blessed to find each other. I'd say it was dumb luck but I know better.

I've had my struggles in life.  I've been down and out and so poor I had to eat canned pineapple for an entire week until the pay check came.  I've seen some sadness and weathered some storms.  I have some scars.

But. Here's where I'm so very very blessed: I've never not been absolutely head over heels in love with my husband.  It's an amazing gift. I stand all amazed most days at my good fortune to have married the very person I would choose every time to be in the fox hole with, no matter the battle.

Oh sure we have our fights and disagreements.  He wishes I wasn't directionally challenged. I take issue with sweaty running clothes dropped on the floor and stinky yerba maté  cups in the sink.

We needle each other out of spite or boredom. We mutter sarcastic remarks under our breath.  We play ro-sham-bo over diaper changes and bedtime chores.  We both think the other has a poor memory.

But at the end of the day, even if I'm irritated and out of sorts with him, I want to cuddle up to my husband.  I want to smell his neck and put my hand on his cool cheek. I want to fall asleep with the comforting heft of him on my right side, listening to his deep bear breaths.

I'm crazy about Sugar Daddy. He's my Clark Kent. And there's not a thing known to man that can change that.

Lucky, lucky me.

blue

Sugar Daddy has been gone and I find that I am becoming quite blue. The house is full of little bodies but it's oh so empty.  I have things to do every second of the day and yet I am bored.

The hour I set aside to work in the studio while the babies slept was entirely unproductive.  Instead of working on a large order I have due next week, I spun slowing in my chair with my camera to my eye.  I focused here and there. I zoomed in on Finnigan's nose.

I thought about my husband, hard at work in some court room in the big bad city of Los Angeles.  I tried to picture what tie he might be wearing and I thought about how his hair brushes the tops of his ears. Salt and pepper sexy.

I listened to a little Johnny Cash. I pinched the fat on my stomache and assesed how long it will take me to run it off.  I picked some red paint off my desk. And then the Little Mister started grunting, and like clock work the Bird called out to me and that was it. My time was over.

I'm feeling blue because life is a lot of hard work these days.

And if I have to be in the trenches, then I want Sugar Daddy with me.

He's got my back.

coming home

Let me set the scene.

Sugar Daddy pitted against a large L.A. firm with lawyers so slick their suits glimmered in the sunshine. It was an ugly, personal struggle. It was family members on either side of the fight. Millions were at stake and an 85 year old mother was relying on Ben and his partner to bring justice to light.

This is what it meant to our family:

No daddy for three weeks.

He worked all day every day and I awoke in the wee hours of the night to find him finally returned to me, tired and beat.

In the morning he'd be long gone.Yesterday was magical. Yesterday Sugar Daddy, the love of my life, a talented lawyer and amazing father, triumphed.

Yesterday the jury saw through all the fancy foot work of the L.A. firm and delivered justice.

Dearest,

Come home now. I feel like you have been away at war. I know you are weary. Let me hold your head in my lap and kiss your temples. The children need to hold your hand and feel your presence. We need you
back. We have missed you.

Well done Counselor.

clark

I bet you didn't know that I am married to Clark Kent. It's true.

Sugar Daddy had lasik eye surgery but he still needs to wear reading glasses. I think he is incredibly sexy when he reads, thus, he makes sure to read in bed.

I do love anything retro. Oh yes I do. And my husband aims to please.

Ben was diagnosed with "Law School Myopia". No joke. That is really the name. The guy reads like a banshee.

He has recently found that his eye surgery didn't give him the perfect vision he wants, so today he came home with new glasses.

When he came in the house I thought I had been caught in a time warp and ended up in the 1960's. I think he might secretly be working on cracking the case of the assassination of President Kennedy. He murmured something about the grassy knoll during his nap.

rock on

I have been blessed/cursed with an entrepreneurial husband. Ben and his best friend are forever coming up with new business ideas. Thing is- most of their ideas are really good. They formed a company a few years ago that taught new real estate agents how to understand and fill out the necessary documents when buying or selling property. It went gang busters until the housing market went down the toilet. No more swanky dinners for us. We are back to eating at dives. Oh well.

Anyway- they have a new brain child and they are launching it this week. As I write they are in San Francisco handing out fliers at the American Idol tryouts.

Top Rock Star is an social networking site where aspiring musicians can upload their work and have it judged by their peers. Each month a cash prize is given to the winner in each genre category. That winner then advances to the finals, which take place every six months.

It only costs five bucks a month and you can upload as many songs as you like. If you are a closet rock star, try it out.

Oh, and I'd like to put out a big smooch to my Sugar Daddy in San Fran. Thanks for working so hard so I can live my rock-n-roll life style.
