i'm bored

Ahhhh. It's that lovely time of year when the phrase can be heard reverberating through the halls of home, "I'm bored Mom."  It can easily become the Summer mantra if you aren't prepared with an arsenal of activities to keep it at bay.

Here's some of the things I have ready to dish out this season should the boy, heaven forbid, run out of things to do.

First off, the ice cream ball. We tried it out. It was super easy and it kept the boys occupied for at least a half hour.

We made pink peppermint.

Second idea: Where is it?

I went around my house with my iPhone and took a bunch of super tight photos of things found in different rooms.  The game is for Thom to try to remember where in the house the items can be found.

He wandered around the house for a good forty-five minutes trying to find where the picture were taken.

So, I shared. It's your turn. Gemme some ideas for easy time fillers. What do you say when your kid says, "Mom I'm bored."?

I love the idea of taking pictures and sending them on a scavenger hunt. I'm so gonna do that!

We play the quiet game a lot...oh wait...that's to save my sanity, not fight boredom!

Whenever we would dare to express boredom, SHAZAAAM housework would magically appear, trash to empty, laundry to fold, stairs to vacuum . . .you get the idea. Sorry Thom.

I made a list of about 85 things to do this summer when we get bored, and posted it on my fridge so we have easy access. We've been marking it off as we do things, with the goal of finishing them all by the time school starts up. It's on my pathetic little blog, should you care to use ideas (it skews a little younger than Thom, but many of the ideas are local): chasingchelmo.blogspot.com.

I have a friend who has five children, and when one of them says that, he or she gets handed a broom and is told to start sweeping!

Start a story that would interest the age group of the children involved. Build it to a climatic point and then turn the tale over to one of the kids. They build on the story and the pass it along until every one has had a turn. When the story wanes of everyone has had a turn, take the story back and create an ending.

We did geo-caching only "treasure hunt" style, without a GPS.
Then there's always the old fashioned lemonade stand, or tie-dying t-shirts! Enjoy! :-)

Both fantastic ideas. The ice cream looks good! I just might be running around my house taking some photos.

Two of the most dreaded words on any moms list! My kids are 10 and 7 so luckily they play a lot together, but otherwise we try do creative things like painting, making things, board games. I like you photo game, i am so gonna try that! I have the kids at home for three weeks for our winter holidays now...so it's good I read this post!

I just pinned you! I love the idea of taking close up pics of items around the house. That's a fantastic way to not only help with memory but yes keep the kids entertained for a while in a fun way. When my son returns from a visit with his grandparents we are going to try this out.
