miracle

Dearest friends,

Please excuse my absence. I have found myself, as of late, smack dab in the middle of a miracle. As it turns out, miracles are a little like tornadoes. If you stand in the center of a tornado, there is no getting out until the storm calms and the dust clears.

As with every miracle, there is an angel involved. This miracle that has been taking place is unusually large and it called for a very particular kind of angel. My angel is an tall Australian artist with beautiful blond dreadlocks. This is Emily.

Emily will carry around a little piece of my heart until my dying day.

The week that I posted our adoption profile online, Emily spoke with a dear friend who's daughter was expecting a baby. There are a lot of crazy, amazing little details that happened but in the end the sky cracked open and my little family stood under a shower of blessings. We have been dancing in the rain ever since.

Our little girl is due May 19th.

Tell me. How do you thank someone for a gift so significant? How do you put into words the love and gratitude you feel for someone you just meet? How do we begin to express the wonder we feel at the selflessness of a birth mother? We haven't found a way.

We lay in bed and look at each other. How can this be happening? Why are we so lucky?

WOW! That is going to be about as quick as our adoption! We learned about Charlotte in May and she was born Sept. 2nd. Have you met the birthmother?

Are you going through an adoption agency? We hadn't even started all the paper work when we found out about her.

You are getting a miracle! Congrats!

How simply wonderful.
I have been in your place twice. There are no words, are there? Praise God for brave women/birthmothers who put their children first and love them with such strength. I have been blessed two times and I think it's a miracle that God moves complete strangers to become part of the landscapes of our hearts.
Congratulations.

I'm late, I'm late....Sorry for the late congrats via your blog. Forgive me as I was visiting YOU in California. So very cool. You were so excited when I saw you. All beamy and happy like all expecting mothers are! Think of all the tutus and princess dresses you can buy. Oh - The little preggo that is carrying your child is going to look fierce in my maternity clothes. Em is hooking her up. The baby will be able to feel the fierceness from inside.

I just found your blog today. I saw your video on Tara's site and clicked through. First of all, you have an amazing blog and a beautiful family, and if that video doesn't make a person cry it is because his or her heart has gone missing. Secondly, if you lived next door to me I would be the best neighbor you could ask for and I would offer to babysit for you all the time (and I am highly qualified). And lastly, I always had a feeling that Emily was a magical being and when I got to this post I knew that I was right. I've never met her, but I just know she is grace personified. Congratulations on...well...EVERYTHING!
